Teaching Opportunities at CT Piecemakers Quilt Guild

CTPiecemakersLOGOThe Connecticut Piecemakers' Quilt Guild was formed in 1981 by a small group of Trumbull, CT women who gathered in local homes to share their quilting.  Originally named "The Trumbull Piecemakers", the club has grown to about 200 members, who live mostly throughout the State of Connecticut.

The club meets monthly from September to June to share workshops, lectures, "show and tell" and to exchange ideas and knowledge. Meetings are now held on Monday mornings, once a month, at the Calvary Church, Trumbull, CT .  It is usually the second Monday of the month, but please check the calendar.   The Piecemakers also maintain a lending library of quilt related books and materials for it's members and is a non-profit organization.

Membership in the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild is open to anyone who loves quilting.

Meetings are held at

Calvary Church

“Double-Take: Photo and Fiber” New Exhibition by Sisters in Cloth

MarthaWolfe_TigerLily The Guilford-based fiber art group Sisters in Cloth will team up with photographer Rosemary DeLucco-Alpert in a show entitled "Double-Take: Photo and Fiber".

Fifteen of Rose's captivating floral photographs have been interpreted by the Sisters’ fiber artists.   There are two quilts for every photo: an 18" X 24" piece accompanied by an 8" square detail.

The image shown here is one of Martha Wolfe’s interpretations of “Tiger Lily”.  Check out Martha’s blog for more details about her work on this project, including images of her 8” detail piece.

The show will debut in February at the Haskins Laboratories at Yale, New Haven, CT.

Sisters in Cloth member Diane Wright explains,

“This show represents a departure from our usual presentation style... and a giant leap in making our artwork more accessible to galleries.  We are mounting our quilts, all 32 of them, then using black "float frames" for hanging.  The photographer's pieces will also be framed, adding to the overall unity of the exhibition.  The result will be an absolutely stunning display of consistency and beauty in photo and fiber”.

The Sisters in Cloth include SAQA-CT members: Linda Zimmerman, Diane Wright, Ruth Anne Olson, Carol Ludington, Gail Kotowski, Yvette Howard, Vivika DeNegre, Debbie Bento and Barbara C. Adams.

Call for Entries: DHM Digital Gallery “Collections of One” – Early Deadline Jan. 1, 2011

DHM_digitalGallery

Do you make functional quilts, wall dividers, fiber art vases, bowls or baskets?

Collections of One is a juried portfolio competition open to all applied artists age 18 or above, working in the US and abroad. Winning designers will have a portfolio of their work featured on the DHM Digital Gallery website for a period of three months.

Entrants should send a CD containing digital images of between 12 and 20 original one-of-a kind functional objects, all constructed from the material of their chosen category. These works must have been completed within the preceding ten years (2000 through 2010), and be the creations of the submitter. Evaluation will be based upon the creative uniqueness, diversity and originality of the work, evidence of excellence in craftsmanship, and quality of the photographic images.

Exhibition of accepted work will include notation of the artist's name and either an e-mail address or website address (as preferred), to facilitate independent sales of work.

THE RULES:
All submitted works must be functional objects typically used within interior spaces that also exhibit unique, innovative, inspirational, creative artistry. Submitters must identify the primary material from which the portfolio of work is constructed. Entries will be evaluated against others made from that same material. Acceptable material categories are fiber/paper, wood, metal, clay, glass/plastic, and stone/concrete. Examples of appropriate objects include furnishings (hard and soft), utensils, containers, fixtures, and other objects that enhance function and physical comfort within interior spaces. Works selected for display within the DHM Digital Gallery will exhibit nontraditional, innovative design.

Not eligible for submission are the fine arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.); objects that are purely decorative; works that are representative of functional objects but are not, themselves, functional; objects that are mass produced; photography; video; architecture or architectural drawings; graphic designs; lighting designs (i.e., the projection of illumination in space); or functional objects not typically used within interior spaces.
