Eleven Oliver Knight's "A Man of Valor" at the National Afro-American Museum

Evelyn Oliver Knight attended the opening of "Yours for Race and Country: Reflections on the Life of Colonel Charles Young" at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce, OH. 

Her piece, "A Man of Valor," was created following an invitation from Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi to participate in this exhibit. As a 1979 graduate of Wilberforce University, Evelyn had heard of Col. Young's contribution as a former professor of Military Science, Chemistry, English, French, Math and Music. Col. Young achieved unparalleled success in a variety of arenas which made his life worthy of this wonderful exhibit.

Garden Party includes SAQA Members

Fairfield Fiber, an art quilt group including SAQA members, has been working on quilts inspired by the theme Garden Party. The show runs at Easton Public Library April 2 – May 15, 2019. An artist reception will be held 1:00 to 3:00 on April 13.

Exhibiting members of the group include: Lynne Allen, Christina Blais, Meredith Brooks, Kathy Burns, Lois Caron, Nike Cutsuhpas, Barbara Dierolf, Lin Elmo, Laura Lugo, Susan Ober, Norma Schlager and Margaret Phillips.

The library is located at 691 Morehouse Road, Easton. We hope to see you for our reception on the 13th, but if you can’t make it then, the works can be seen during regular library hoursMonday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 10-6; Thursday 10-8, Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-3.

Rita Hannafin at Fairfield University Bookstore

Ekphrasis is a term used when a poet writes a piece to a specific artwork. 

Rita Hannafin will be participating in an Ekphrasis with her artwork, Storm-Tossed Memories.

Reception and reading at the Fairfield U Bookstore on Post Road on Friday April 5 at 6:00 p.m.

Trove of Twelve - Prospectus

Our Trove of Twelves

This is a companion exhibit to our signature exhibition Local Color: 4Rs which will begin traveling in 2020. Submissions are accepted beginning March 2019 thru December.

For “Our Trove of Twelves”, members of SAQA CT are encouraged to dig into their trove of 12 x 12’s or create new pieces and submit for showing. 

Purpose: Educatethepubliconthevarietyoftechniquesusedby fiberartists.

Theme: No specific theme requested.

Venue: The Slater Memorial Museum

Requirements:

·     12 x 12s should  be on stretcher bars/canvas, be wired, and be ready for hanging

·     Works must be in good showing condition and submitted in a cover/bag labeled with the artist’s name.

·     Each piece should be submitted with a brief (20 word) description of the technique(s) used

·     Members may submit up to 3 entries 

·     Non-juried showcase

Entry Fee: $10 for up to three (3) entries

Entry Dates: March – December 2019

Margaret Phillips at the Greenwich Arts Center

Margaret A. Phillips'  "Jane #2"  (12" x 12") has been juried into the Greenwich Art Society's 102 Annual Juried Exhibition at the Bendheim Gallery at the Greenwich Arts Center.  The all media exhibition was juried by Megan Fontanella, Curator, Modern Art and Provenance at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.  The exhibit runs through April 4, 2019.

Windham Textile & History Museum's 2019 quilt show "Under Cover Stories"
Show dates: May 3rd, - July 28th, 2019

- Saturday, May 11th - 2:00 p.m. – walk through talk by Fiber Artist,
Kathy Baglioni on her show “Celebrating Women in the Arts”

- Saturday, May 25th - Hampton Antiquarian Society/ Joan Johnson will
display their historical quilts. AND, Lois Palmer will be on hand to
do appraisals.

- Saturday, June 8th (CT OPEN HOUSE DAY- free museum day or reduced
rate day in the state) - Jillson House in Willimantic will be open and
displaying some of their Historical Quilts

- the museum will also be offering several 2-hour sessions (1:00 -
3:00 p.m.) on; Hand Embroidery- Sue Latulipe; Knitting 1-3 Faith
Kenton; and, Rug Hooking  1 – 3  Sue Bruno; and Hand-Quilting
Catherine Smith.
