IQF Quilt Scene Magazine Features Vivika DeNegre’s Design

News from SAQA-CT artist Vivika DeNegre:

Coming soon to a news stand near you, International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene Magazine is featuring a new design of mine for a fast and fun contemporary table runner.  I am looking forward to receiving my advance copy and see which version of the runner they will be showcasing.

One was made with Laura Wasilowski and Malka Dabrowski hand dyed fabrics (two of my favorite textile dyers).  Another used interesting stamped and jacquard African fabrics from Cultured Expressions, and a third was made with gorgeous fabric from the Kaffe Fasset collection.  Which ever version the editors chose, we can be sure that the photography was beautiful and the project will be well presented.  The visual presentation in all Quilting Arts publications is so beautiful, it is one of the reasons I love writing for them and subscribing to their magazines.

Volusia County was the first area in Central Florida to exhibit art quilts as fine art. The area has become a site for many fiber gatherings and exhibitions. This program will introduce other venues to the fiber arts and exhibit the creative growth in the fiber arts. Artists are expected to create and display their innovative works featuring textile techniques with unusual materials or common materials used in unique ways. There are a total of five venues but only two featuring Studio Art Quilt Associates and Surface Design Associates.

Quilt artists are encouraged to present works where they are reaching outside the terminology of a quilt. Surface Design artists are asked to show works that use various materials in a fiber technique (i.e. weaving with wire) or to stretch their fiber techniques to new boundaries. 3-D, free-standing works, ceiling hangings, wall hangings, and other non-traditional works will be accepted.

Juror:  Pamela Allen

Curators: Mary McBride MaryMcBrideArts@gmail.com and Judy Gilmer

Support Fiber Art in New England: Donate an 8 x 10 Art Quilt to NEQM

Attention Fiber Artists of New England:

As part of the "No Holds Barred" show at the New England Quilt Museum, many artists in the SAQA New England regions have agreed to contribute small art quilts.

IMPORTANT:  The donated 8x10 art quilts will be part of a special exhibit and fundraiser for NEQM which will run in conjunction to the “No Holds Barred” show.  However you are NOT required to have work in “No Holds Barred” to make a donation.  ANYONE can send an 8x10 donation to support the museum.

The small art quilts that are to be donated are to be matted by the artist. The museum will put them in plastic envelopes for exhibiting in the museums' gift shop. A very gracious SAQA member has donated the plastic sleeves for our artwork.

The mat should be 11" x 14" on the OUTSIDE. The inside OPENING should be about 8" x 10". Your art quilt should fit into the opening. Your name, title of piece, website, blog, email and/or phone number should be printed on the back of the mat, so a possible customer could contact you. It is a good idea to include that information on the back of your art quilt as well, in the event that it may get separated from the mat. The gift shop manager will be pricing the work.

The museum would like all of the donated pieces to be there before December 31, 2010. Here is a link to the mats that are available on the Dick Blick site:

http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-ready-mat-singles/

If your piece has embellishments, you should mat it with a double mat to give it more depth. The color doesn't matter, just choose what gives your art quilt the most pizzazz!

The museum is very grateful for our donations, and excited about this show. Let's show them our stuff!

The address for the museum is:
