SAQA-Connecticut's regional rep Catherine Whall Smith was honored to received the Alice Clark Hubbard Prize at the Mystic Art Center's 58th Regional Show, for her piece Tying Up the Hay #1.
The exhibition will be on display August 1st – September 20th, 2014
The MAC Regional Exhibition, juried by Power Boothe, features a wide-range of creative voices and artistic media, including photography, oil, acrylic and carved wood. Cathy's piece was one of the only fiber pieces juried into the show.
When asked about her work, Cathy says “The quilts I create are strongly influenced by my surroundings. My Hay Series is based on my photos of rolled hay. When they are enlarged they present an image of chaotic lines. I use those chaotic lines to explore the visual spaced created when line meets line or lines overlap lines.”
