Sunday December 8 was the official opening of the Slater Museum's double-sized fiber art exhibition. Art quilts from the SAQA CT: Local Color collection were interspersed with quilts from Fiber Revolution: Diversity, curated by CT's own Barbara McKie.
The results were beautiful and sometimes surprising. Visitors who had seen the Local Color show in Danbury or Hartford were treated to a fresh new experience in Norwich.
The Slater Museum has large open spaces allowing people to back up and view the work from a distance. The high ceilings, skylights and white walls played up the color and texture of the fiber art. Several people commented "These look like different quilts!".
Gallery coordinator Vivian Zoe's carefully considered placement of Fiber Revolution pieces with those from Local Color created a wonderful visual story.
SAQA artists from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York came to the opening reception.
Several glass cases displayed small handmade items created by SAQA CT artists.
Congratulations to all the artists from SAQA Connecticut and Fiber Revolution! And thank you to everyone who attended the opening reception.
