Last Stop for Local Color: Guilford Art Center Feb 7 (Guilford, CT)

Don't miss the Local Color exhibition at its final venue, the Guilford Art Center, located at 411 Church Street in Guilford, CT.  The show will run from February 7 through March 16, 2014.

Christina Blais Earns Honorable Mention in Grand Central Terminal Quilt Challenge (New York City, NY)

Congratulations to SAQA CT artist Christina Blais, who has earned an Honorable Mention in City Quilter's "Grand Central Terminal Quilt Challenge"!

Christina's quilt Meet Me at the Clock will be among the selected quilts on display at Grand Central Terminal this spring, as part of the station's 100th Anniversary celebration.

Sorry, she can't share a photo of the quilt until the big REVEAL in New York City!  However, we know one or more of these fabrics will be included in Christina's design:

The GCT Quilt Challenge required artists to use City Quilter's "Constellation" fabrics in at least 25% of the top surface area.  These 4 fabrics were inspired by the decorative ceiling and rich history of Grand Central Terminal.

The Grand Central Centennial Comes to Life on February 1st. Celebrate Grand Central’s 100th birthday all day with exhibits, special offers, performances, notable speakers, surprise entertainment, photo opportunities and more!

Exhibition by Lisa Corson at the Watermark (Southbury, CT)

SAQA CT artist Lisa Corson is showing 12 art quilts from her Tarot Series for the month of January at the Watermark at East Hill Communities in Southbury. Don't miss the Opening Reception tomorrow!

On Saturday, Jan. 4, The Watermark at East Hill will host an opening reception for Wolcott mixed-media fiber artist Lisa Corson, who will be exhibiting her work at the retirement community throughout the month of January. The reception will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. at the retirement community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

Corson's exhibit, entitled "Shadows of the Soul: The Duality of Personality" consists of photographs printed on fabric, hand-dyed cotton, oil pastel, pastel pencil, foil, thread, other miscellaneous findings. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and is designed to tell a story about different sides of the human personality.

Jan 5–Feb 23: Fiber and Photography at the Kershner Gallery (Fairfield, CT)

The Bruce S. Kershner Gallery at the Fairfield Public Library will have a reception for Double Takeon Saturday, Jan. 11, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Guilford-based fiber art group Sisters in Cloth teamed up with photographer Rosemary DeLucco-Alpert in a show entitled "Double-Take: Photo and Fiber".

Fifteen of Rose's captivating floral photographs have been interpreted by the Sisters’ fiber artists.   There are two quilts for every photo: an 18" X 24" piece accompanied by an 8" square detail.

The show will run from Jan. 5 to Feb. 23, 2014.
